July, for me, marks the very peak of summer. And as a matter of fact, it is my favorite month to read. Nothing beats a day where all you have to do is read without the worry of school work.
If you remember, last month I made my very own TBR mailbox (click here to read the blog post). 
I can tell you that mailbox gives challenges that will push you to the limit (but that’s where the fun is, right?). My very first challenge is to read a YA Dystopian novel with a male protagonist. All my books are consist of female protagonist, so I am very lucky that I found Proxy by sir Alex London.
I rarely post reviews here on my blog, because most of my reviews are on Goodreads, but since there’s always a special book every month given by my mailbox, I believe it is only right to post a special review here on my blog. At the end of each month, I will post a special review for my book-of-the-month challenge minus this long intro (I am only doing it this time, because this is my first.) I will not do my traditional review where I look at writing style, pace, character development, and plot. Without further ado, here’s my book-of-the-month challenge for July 2015.
SYNOPSIS:
Syd’s life is not his own. As a proxy he must to pay for someone else’s crimes. When his patron Knox crashes a car and kills someone, Syd is branded and sentenced to death. The boys realize the only way to beat the system is to save each other so they flee. The ensuing cross-country chase will uncover a secret society of rebels, test the boys’ resolve, and shine a blinding light onto a world of those who owe and those who pay.
This fast-paced thrill ride of a novel is full of breakneck action, shocking twists and heart-hammering suspense that will have readers gasping until the very last page.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK:
Just by reading the synopsis alone, it is very obvious that the novel has a very unique concept. Buying someone so they could pay for your sins? I haven’t heard anything like that before. Not only does the book excel in uniqueness, but also in characters. Proxy is one of the best example of what kind of characters our books in the market should have now. The main character has brown skin and a homosexual. How cool is that?
When it comes to content, the action scenes are just everywhere. Blink and the next thing you know the main characters are facing another bump in the road.
WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK:
When a book starts with high intensity, I always expect that it will only go up from there. Proxy‘s intensity is really high and explosive, because the book hurls revelations and twists one after another. However, towards the end, the intensity starts to drop down. I am happy that the book manages to fly again, making me more than excited for the 2nd book, Guardian.
Recommend to:
Anyone that loves dystopian books will surely enjoy this masterpiece. Even if you don’t enjoy this dystopia, the cyberpunk and mystery elements of the novel will surely keep anyone on the edge of their seats.
